Shamineh is an art gallery. I put on 8 or 9 shows a year – all varied. I love looking for pictures that are honest, exhilarating and full of life.
We are also opening a cafe!
The idea of a café started when I realised people wanted to stay longer in the gallery. Nothing thrilled me more than anyone wanting to look at a picture for hours on end. Though after a ten minutes or so people started thinking about coffee, cakes…lunch! So in came a counter, an espresso machine, bar stools, tables and the very same comfy sofa, delightfully close to where very large pictures were usually hung, the one that had people staying for much longer in the gallery than they had in mind and hey presto we are now officially an art gallery and a café!
We are open!

Visions and Vistas: Cornish Saints in the Landscacpe
Paintings by Johanna Freudenberg
Like a dawn mist, Cornwall’s ancient history hovers, shrouding woodlands, tracing the ghostly paths of rivers and streams, and clinging to cliff sides as they make their breathless descent to the sea. Embedded in the names of towns, villages and churches are the footsteps of the holy men and women who wandered through the Cornish landscape, mainly in the fourth, fifth and sixth centuries, often voyaging from Ireland or Wales to bring Christianity to pagan Cornwall. The lives of these Cornish Saints are told in a vibrant mixture of the historical and legend: piety and virtue mingle with fantastical visions and heroics beyond reason. In their tales one can taste the timeless salt-laden air as raging storms toss them along on their journeys.
